One can get his credit information report (CIR) from Cibil after paying a fee of Rs 142. If you miss one credit card payment cycle, banks inform Cibil immediately and your credit history will be tarnished. Banks and credit cards companies regularly send last of defaulters to Cibil.

Knowing why your name figures in the list of defaulters will benefit as you can get in touch with your bank or the credit card company and sort out the dispute. As a credit information bureau, Cibil collects data from banks, credit card companies and prepared credit history report of individuals. Cibil holds 15 crore credit card holders' record.
Credit history report reflects details such as name, age, date of birth and PAN and past repayment history.

The CIR report will be made available on request through an email, telephone, fax or ordinary mail.

To get a CIR, one can send a demand draft of Rs 142 to get the report. The Cibil report will indicate your default status indicating for how many months you are a defaulter. "Even if the amount you have to pay to the company is under dispute, until resolution of the matter, your name is taken off only when the bank updates Cibil," said a Cibil official.

Soon, Cibil plans to make available credit information report online. However, that will take time as the company is working on the systems. Cibil is also planning to include defaulter's side of story in CIR. In case, the defaulter provides evidence that it was bank's mistake, then Cibil will include it in the CIR too, official added.
